There are few or we can say many words in English language that are somehow similar in meaning but actually, they are not and the students are facing difficulties in where and when to use that words. They are not synonyms, they are the same but have a little different from one another. Today we will be talking about such words using in English Language and will be clearing the difference between them

Trip and Tour:-

The word “trip” is used when someone went somewhere for particular purposes such as educational purposes or business purposes or any other informative purposes or we can say it for pleasure as well. It is for a short period of time. It is used as a Noun.

For example:

We went to trip to Mohen Jo Daro for discovering old buildings. We went on trip to London for death to queen.

The word “tour” mainly used for pleasure of going somewhere. Here person visit different places for pleasure and joy.

For example :

We went on tour to Naran and Kaghan. We went to Kashmir to enjoy its beauty.

Among and Between:-

The word “between” is used when the relation or connection is shown between two people. Usually, the relation is shown when there are only two elements

For example :

You have to choose between Lamborghini and BMW. The deal was fixed between Aitzaz and Haris. Tip: Between is also used when there are more than two-person and elements are involved as far as the elements are separate and distinct.

The word “among” is used when the relation or connection is shown between more than two people and elements. Usually, it is used when a large number of things or persons are involved in the sentence.

For example :

You have to choose widely among these all branded cars. The deal was fixed among Haris, aitzaz and Zarar.

Fun and Funny:

The word “fun” means enjoyable. Like you enjoy a good time or went out on adventure. It is not always an adjective, it is also used as a noun. Simply it means when you enjoy the moment or having pleasurable moments.

For example :

We are having fun in the zoo. Sitting in English conversation class is fun

The word “funny” is used as an adjective. It means the situation or the person or things that make you laugh or happy. Maybe a comedian. Like someone tells you a joke.

For example :

George Carlin is very funny man. Mr. Bean is very funny character.

During and While :

The word “during” is used usually before the noun. It is mainly used throughout the event or in the middle of some events. It is always followed by a noun that will be showing any activity. It is a Preposition

For example :

He was using mobile during driving. He was speaking during Nemaz.

The word “while” is used when two events or actions happening at the same time. This word is followed by a proper sentence or Clause. It is Conjunction.

For example :

The phone rang while I was taking bath. I met him in park while I was jogging.

Can and May:

The word “can “ is used in English Language when you are capable of doing something or when you got permission or when you are allowed to do something. It simply means being able to. It is sometimes informal permission and grammatically is informal. It is showing the possibility of something.

Can is used as

  • To show ability
  • For permission
  • Request
  • Possibility
  • Offer or suggestion

For example :

She can do this task Can I get your number? Can I get your book, please? Can I expect good deeds from you? Can I play on your side?

The word “may” is used to indicate future possible happening or regarding happenings in the future. Used also to give or to take permissions. It is always used for permissions and is formal grammatically. The word “may” is mainly used as

  • Possibility
  • Permissions
  • Wishes and Blessings

For example :

Our exams may be held online May I come in? May you have a happy life ahead.
